Smiley Key Locksmith was launched in 2007.
The company is an extension of Waterglen Locksmith which has been in operation since 1985 and is still located at Waterglen Park center in Pretoria East.
“Our reputation as the ‘go-to place’ for keys, remotes and general locksmith expertise, is the key to our success.
We value, above anything else, the relationship that we have built with our clients as the largest portion of our business can be attributed to referrals and returned customers.
With customer service at the core of our dealings, we strive to meet and exceed client expectations”.
Riaan van Rensburg
Owner/Manager Riaan van Rensburg started working at Waterglen Locksmith – (a family concern) – in 2002. He discovered a natural talent and love for the industry.
The technical aspects of the industry, combined with the challenges of retail, presented a unique opportunity.
Currently, Smiley Key Locksmith is the preferred and only registered locksmith in the eastern suburbs of Pretoria.
The company and its entire staff are registered with both The Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSIRA), and The Locksmith Association of South Africa (LASA).

Our Staff

24 Hour Locksmith – Pretoria East
We have proudly been serving the Pretoria East area since 1985 and look forward to serving you.

+ 1. Q: I have lost my keys, how can you help me?
A: Our qualified and experienced staff will gladly advise you on locks that need to be replaced or duplicate keys that could be made. We also do ‘re-keying of locks’ (changing the wafers or pins) of ALL locks. Our 24 hour mobile unit is available for any emergency work you might need at your premises.
+ 2. Q: I am locked out of my house (office) what do I do?
A: Call us! We are experts at non-destructive entry.
+ 3. Q: My car keys are locked in my car?
A: Call us! We will give you an immediate quote, time of arrival and if we are unsuccessful, YOU DON’T PAY A CENT! If for any reason we cannot help you we will take it upon ourselves to arrange an alternative solution.
+ 4. Q: I need a new garage or gate remote at my private house?
A. Come in and see us. If possible, bring a working sample. Alternatively, we will ask you for a description – (color of casing front and back, color of button, led etc). Some older makes can either be coded in our shop or by yourself. MOST new remotes has to be programmed at the premises either using a MASTER remote or by locating the receiver unit connected to the motor.
B. Our mobile unit can come to your premises and code your new remotes for you – (we also show you how it is done for future coding) – at a price.
C. We are happy to supply you with the necessary instructions.
+ 5. Q: I need a new garage or gate opener at my complex / office building?
A: You can buy the remote from us and (as applicable to some older products) code it as well. DO NOT, however, attempt to do the coding at the premises! The coding has to be done by the complex / buildings representative e.g. manager/caretaker. We provide this service to clients for both new and existing systems.
+ 6. Q: Can you cut ANY key?
A: Yes and no. In theory …yes we could. If the need arises to cut a certain key, Smiley Key endeavours to import the blank, have a template designed and engineered, or get the shape molded. However the reality is that like most things, key cutting is governed by supply and demand. Therefore, in some cases, it just isn’t viable to go to all that trouble. There are also (what we in the industry call) ‘restricted keys’ or ‘high security / special keys’ that we choose not to cut. This is for security reasons and we insist on following the proper steps in the supplying them.
+ 7. Q: How much does it cost to cut a key?
A: Our keys range from R8.50 for a standard cupboard key, to R1250.00 for some car keys. The most common type of cylinder keys are between R15.00 and R28.00, and double sided gate keys are between R32.00 and R49.00. For an estimate or exact quote we insist on seeing the key first hand.
+ 8. Q: What is a Transponder Key?
A: The majority of car-keys manufactured after 1995 contain transponder chips. The purpose of a transponder chip is to disarm a vehicle immobilizer when the car key is used to start the engine. The chip is not visible and is embedded in the plastic part of the key. We are able to supply, copy, code and cut these car keys with their chips. To do this, we need a sample (original) in the shop for an exact quote. The prices range from R850.00 upwards.
+ 9. Q: I have an existing lock but no keys?
A: No problem. Bring us your locks for servicing, repair or re-keying. We specialize in lock to key and key to lock matching. We also discourage the discarding of locks that are still operational. RECYCLE your locks and keys with us we give them a new lease on securing someone’s life!
+ 10. Q: I have a safe but have lost the code / key?
A: Bring it in or call us 24/7! Remember to explain which type of safe you have – A. Combination (uses a dial) B. Key Operated C. Digital (electronic). We open, service and re-code or re-key most safes.
